A quick DC day-trip to Bluemont Vineyard

Bluemont Winery View
During the Labor Day weekend, my wife & I were looking for a quick day-trip that wouldn’t take us too far from our home base just outside of Washington DC. After asking around, a friend recommended Bluemont Vineyard, which turned out to be a fantastic choice.

About an hour and 15 minutes outside city limits, the route to Bluemont is actually quite pleasant. There is plenty of picturesque scenery, and a few craft & niche shops along the way to make things seem much shorter. When you arrive, you ascend a rather treacherous ‘nearly single lane’ pathway (in your car, of course) to the top of a small rise – at the top of which rests the winery. Assuming you are brave enough to make it to the top, you will be rewarded with spectacular country-side views.

The winery itself is two floors of both indoor and out-door seating, though as you might guess, given the views the outdoor patios are the main attraction. Bluemont offers a bar or table-side wine tasting for only $5, and the wait staff proved friendly, knowledgable and happy to oblige our questions and requests. Afterwards, we decided to grab a table and share a few glasses of our favorites along with food (meats & cheeses) off of the modest, but appetizing, menu that was offered.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The wine is quite good, the meat & cheese plate delicious and perfectly paired, and absolutely nothing could beat the view.
