Hi, my name is Christine…
Thursday, April 17th, 2008Greetings all! I am here to introduce myself. After much deliberation I decided to do it the way kids did back in high school. Remember? They would slowly slither into the classroom; hand the teacher a paper showing they were now a part of the group; then attempt to soundlessly slide into an empty seat. That is until the educator in question instructed them to return to their feet and offer up a few strained sentences about themselves. Painful I know, but fun in written form!
My name is Christine and I am 25. Born and raised in the smallest state in the union, Rhode Island, I am currently a resident of New York. I have lived in Astoria Queens for the last year. Living in Astoria has not only built up my leg muscles, it has opened me up to a world of humus, gyro, pita and feta. Astoria is like “Little Greece”. It is home to largest Greek community outside of Greece itself and it is amazing! There is food everywhere. My street is lined with cafes and restaurants. The wonderful thing is, not only are there 17 places I can grab a stuffed grape leaf, but also 3 Thai restaurants, an amazing sushi place, 2 Indian spots and countless pizza joints. Don’t even get me started on the diners…
So in a nutshell, I am greatly inspired and intrigued by all the food around me. It has opened me up to a whole new world. Other fun facts, I have been a vegetarian for 3 years; I have been a diabetic for 15 and I have been a server (or a waitress depending on how snooty you want to sound) for 6. So my life is basically ruled by food and food related topics. Oh, and I am totally obsessed with arugula greens right now.
