Located alongside charming boutiques and restaurants in the easy going, traditionally Swedish neighborhood of Andersonville, the vibe at Kopi is decidedly cozy, laid back and eclectic with a strong emphasis on international travel. The front of the cafe features a small, carpeted area overlooking the street with low tables and cushions for floor seating and the back houses a small gift shop with interesting knickknacks from around the world as well as a diverse assortment of travel guides. The walls are covered in maps, art from around the world and multiple clocks displaying the time in different global cities.
Of course, a good cafe is more than just atmosphere. Kopi offers several different types of coffee, including some free trade varieties (also for general sale, freshly ground in house), a diverse selection of loose tea and yummy standard cafe fare such as croissants, bagels and scones (the orange-cranberry is particularly delightful- just tart enough, neither too dry nor too moist and served warm with a sprinkling of cinnamon).
Quality beverages and delicious light fare would be enough to distinguish a cafe, but Kopi goes far beyond that. An extensive menu offers vegetarian (and some vegan) dishes covering breakfast and all meals thereafter. One of the stand outs is the deluxe vegetarian nacho platter- a perfect dish to share between friends. Also, as one well acquainted with veggie burgers I find Kopi’s particularly tasty. And as if this weren’t enough, there is an entire menu section devoted to desserts (the carrot cake especially is worth drooling over). Best of all, despite the wide range of food and drink available, everything comes in under $10!
Between the ambiance, the coffee and tea and the food, Kopi is truly an interesting, taste bud and wallet friendly setting for studying, chatting with friends or just soaking up some international flavor.
