Only 5 Green Beans!?!?

As you may have read in my previous blog, I have been dieting…all in an effort to feel comfortable in a bridesmaid dress. The good news is that the dress fit well and I felt confident. The bad news is that after dieting and really looking forward to the meal at the wedding, I was so unsatisfied. I missed the cocktail hour for the most part due to wedding photos, but I heard that the appetizers were delicious. So, by the time we sat down to dinner, I was starving.

The meal started with a small green salad and those little rolls that are just too hard to be practical or tasty. Next, we were served a lemon sorbet as an intermezzo; which was delicious, but my palate really did not need cleansing after a couple greens. When the main course arrived, my mouth was watering for the prime rib that I had pre-ordered. Upon placement, I looked down at my plate with disdain: IT WAS SO SMALL!!! Dangerously balanced on a minuscule dollop of mashed potatoes was a thin piece of prime rib. The potatoes were literally gone in three bites. The prime rib was tasty and cooked well, but the portion was ridiculously sized for dinner in a doll house, perhaps. On the side of the plate, aiming to take up more space than they realistically could were 5 green beans.

Now, I love green beans and I thought it was actually comical that there were only 5. My meal was gone in less than 5 minutes and I was still starving. And call me tacky but I even went to the table my parents were seated at to try to get some scraps for me and my boyfriend. At well over 6 feet tall, the meal looked child-size when placed in front of him. We were thinking we had forgotten to check off “super size me” on our response card. The cake was delicious as well, but served in paper-thin slivers. I am not sure what went wrong at this wedding. All the food was enjoyable but it just left you feeling so unsatisfied. I know that the bride and groom had looked down their noses at the buffet options and chosen the “classier” plated dinner.

But I would have much preferred commuting to the carving station and salad station to the meager offerings on my plate. I admit that I am a big eater. For a small girl, I can really pack it in. But, is it too much to ask to be fed well at a wedding that I had already spent hundreds of dollars on because I foolishly agreed to be a bridesmaid? I also noticed that people were getting very drunk at the wedding and this caused some alarm. Of course they were drunk; they were HUNGRY and had nothing to soak up the alcohol! We refrained from hitting up the drive-thru on the way home…barely. :)

    Hey Jennifer:
I just read your wedding “fun” and between the laughter I too was feeling hungry. After all you went through ,you should of had a more satisfying meal then that.
I would of stopped at the drive thru or went home and looked in the fridge.
    Perhaps next time!
