It’s official. I’m one of them. A slave to debt and in the poor house. No, I didn’t max out my credit card on a binge at Bloomingdales. I didn’t even buy a car which I can’t afford but makes me look like I’m keeping up with the Jones’s. I bought a house.

There are several fun things about buying a new house and one of them is moving to a new area as we did. Sherman Oaks is in the San Fernando Valley and hosts a slew of new restaurants. Of course, we’ll have no money to try any of them. However, I came across a place that’s down right delicious and wallet friendly: The Pita Kitchen.

I would classify this as a hole in the wall type place or better, a diamond in the rough. If you love Middle Eastern food, this is your spot.

While I’ve eaten there several times already, I’ve continued to order the Falafel wrap. It’s a gloriously grilled pita filled with Falafel, hummus, tahini, lettuce and tomato. Last night I had them add Babaganoush and Tabouli for fun. Definitely a winner.

I consider myself a bit of a Falafel connoisseur and nine times out of ten they are dry and crumbly. They’re more like balls of sand in which you need to douse them with tahini, just to get them down your throat. Not so at the Pita kitchen! Moist and near perfect.

I’ve also had hummus that’s either too bland or too garlicky. This is neither-it’s garbanzo perfection. Their tabouli too isn’t bogged down by too much parsley and has just a hint of lemon and mint that stays on the tongue.

The wraps are fit for a king-or queen. They’re a mere six dollars and can easily become two meals in one. There are only about a dozen tables inside and out. The line at the take-out window can be long so expect a fifteen minute wait. Last night, at 9:00, the place was jammed.

Because I don’t eat meat, I’m not able to comment however, as I always do, I asked some customers what they liked and they all raved about the chicken schwarma so I feel confident recommending that. Personally, I doubt there’s anything bad on this menu.

Everything is fresh and made to order. I have yet to get an order that wasn’t made just as I’d requested.

Parking is limited and they only take cash.

While the Pita Kitchen is not expensive, I think I’ve just found something, in addition to my new home, that will keep me in debt.
